NPR reports that President Barack Obama has chosen a Black Physician who rebuilt her non-profit clinic in the wake of Hurricane Katrina as Surgeon General of the United States.
She is the second Black woman to be Surgeon General, the first having been Jaqueline Elders, driven out of Washington for her blunt and tough language about birth control and masturbation after she was appointed by President Bill Clinton.
